The new Book by Ignacio Grossmann "Advanced Optimization for Process Systems Engineering"

Posted on: 05 Mar, 2021 Book

Ignacio Grossmann publishes his new textbook about basic and advanced concepts of optimization theory and methods for process systems engineers. The topics covered in this book include continuous, discrete and logic optimization, like linear, nonlinear, mixed-integer and generalized disjunctive programming, optimization under uncertainty like stochastic programming and flexibility analysis, as well as decomposition techniques like the Lagrangean and Benders decomposition.

Since only a basic understanding of calculus and linear algebra is required, he manages to enable an easy understanding and accessability of mathematical reasoning. Numerous examples illustrate the important concepts and algorithms. At the end of the chapters, he provides exercises involving theoretical derivations and small numerical problems, as well as in modeling systems like GAMS to enhance understanding and help the students put knowledge into practice. A full solutions manual accompanies the text, containing web links to modeling systems and models related to applications in PSE, this is an essential text for single-semester, graduate courses in process systems engineering in departments of chemical engineering.
